At Oxclose Primary Academy, we aim to produce confident mathematicians who can use and apply their knowledge and understanding in a variety of contexts. We endeavour to provide children with a diverse range of opportunities to use their maths skills across the curriculum.
Within our school we have a daily maths session. Each session begins with an ‘Arithmetic’ focus which is included to aid the development of mental maths skills. Our Maths lessons then focus on the number system, measures, shape, problem solving and handling data. We approach maths in a number of ways including oral, mental, practical and written work with an emphasis on using appropriate mathematical vocabulary and effective strategies. All maths skills are practiced in different contexts through a number of using and applying activities, reasoning and problem-solving.
