The teaching of music at Oxclose Primary Academy follows the aims of the National Curriculum. We want children to experience music by way of practical engagement in performing, composing and appraising.
Children are given the opportunity to listen to and access a range of different genres of music and develop their aural skills.
We use the Music Express scheme to support our teaching of Music across the school.
Singing and working with rhythm play an important part in the development of musical skills. All children have opportunities to sing within lessons, in weekly singing assemblies and in musical productions.
Peripatetic music teachers visit our school weekly, to offer some children violin and drumming lessons.
The children in year three are given the opportunity to learn to play the ocarina and the children in year 5 are given the opportunity to learn the recorder.
An after school choir and performing arts group are offered to Key Stage 2 children across the year.
