and Miss Robson…

Hi, I’m Lucy Robson and I joined Oxclose Primary Academy in September 2015. I thoroughly enjoyed my first year here, and I’m really looking forward to what this year will bring! I’m teaching in year 1 with Miss Garrigan, but I’ll be dotted around the school throughout the year. When I’m not at school I enjoy baking cakes and taking my dog Alfie for long walks at the beach!

Meet the Year Group Teaching Assistant, Mrs Humphrey…

Hello, I’m Leanne Humphrey. I have been working at Oxclose for the past 12 years! Throughout my time with the school, I have worked in all year groups and have enjoyed them all. I am very experienced in Year 2.

Year 2 Curriculum Overview

Science Week

Year 2 had a great time during Science Week.  We took part in investigations, flew rockets and even create our own Space Station!

World Book Day

Y2 had an amazing World Book Day this year!
We dressed up as a character from our favourite book and brought the book in to read and show. We looked at Julia Donaldson books and voted for our favourite – we made graphs and could see our favourite was The Smartest Giant in Town. We also designed a front cover for a book and coloured it in.

In PSHE we have been looking at the topic – Money Matters.  We did a hot seating activity of the rich and famous and asked the question, Does money make us happy?

That History Bloke

That History bloke visited year 2 at school to talk about ‘The Great Fire of Gateshead’. The children really enjoyed acting, listening to historic stories and dressing up.

We had a follow up trip the week after to The Quayside, Betty Surtees House and St Mary’s Church.

Roald Dahl 100 Day

We really enjoyed Roald Dahl 100 Day in year 2. It was great to see everyone dressed as some of the much loved characters from Roald Dahl’s stories. We had fun following instructions to make Mr Twit’s hairy scary beard cakes. We also designed our own scrumdiddlyumptious chocolate bars.

We have been learning about positional words in Maths and how we use them in every day life! We went out into our local environment and gave/followed instructions using mathematical words like: in, on, under, next to, behind, left, right etc. We had lots of fun working in pairs and now understand how we can use these words to give instructions on where to move to!

World Book Day in Year 2

We loved celebrating World Book Day in Year 2! We put so much effort into our fantastic costumes and really enjoyed the day. We made our own books, researched information about the history of World Book Day/wrote about it, created book marks and designed tokens that have been entered into a competition, where a panel of judges will identify winners! A fabulous day was had by all!

 Magnificent Mini Beast Day

We had an absolutely fantastic day for ‘Magnificent Mini Beast Day’. A mobile zoo came in to visit us on the morning and we got to look at/hold different mini beasts, including: scorpions, cockroaches, land snails, stick insects, millipedes and tarantulas! We then painted our own masks, created our own webbed spiders, made spider biscuits and so much more! We learned so much about mini beasts; ask us anything and I’m sure we’ll be able to tell you!

Excellent Easter work in RE.

Year Two’s Favourite Meal Day

 Botanic Gardens Durham

We visited the Botanic Gardens in Durham with Y1.  We spent the morning in a forest, which was very exciting! We built shelters using sticks, explored the forest area and found lots of acorns and different types of plants, made our own fire and then toasted some marshmallows on it! They were delicious! After our lunch we learned about types of plants in the local environment, fed the sheep and visited the greenhouses. It was a brilliant day out and we really enjoyed ourselves!

Seaside Art Work

Our topic this half term is ‘The Seaside’. We made 3D models at home and they look fantastic! We are so proud of our Art work and we are going to have an exhibition to show off our work to parents!
